The Timing Chain Tensioner applies pressure to the Timing Chain to maintain the correct tension for optimum performance and to prevent slippage.  A worn or damaged Tensioner will cause a rattle in the chain as the engine is running and could cause the chain to slip on the sprockets. . If you notice any rattling noises coming from your Jaguar's engine area, stop the engine immediately and have it checked over by a competent person who can inspect and replace any worn parts as required. If the Timing Chain slips just one or two teeth, it could cause catastrophic damage to your engine.
