The Secondary Air Injection System on your Jaguar is there to further reduce the harmful Hydrocarbon and Carbon Monoxide emissions during the initial period of time after a cold-start. The catalytic converter needs to warm up sufficiently to work properly. The system will usually run for less than 3 minutes, and works by injecting air into the exhaust system. The Hydrocarbons and the Carbon Monoxide react with the oxygen in the air to form less harmful Carbon Dioxide and Water. If there�s a fault with the Secondary Air System in your Jaguar, the emissions monitoring system will bring up a check engine light, which should be investigated and diagnosed by a competent person.
