The Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve on your Jaguar's engine has the primary function of reducing the harmful Nitrous Oxide (NOx) emissions from your Jaguar's exhaust. The basic premise of EGR is to recycle some exhaust gas back into the intake, to cool the combustion chamber by absorbing some heat in the combustion process. A faulty EGR system on a modern vehicle will bring on the Check Engine Light. You'll likely notice a smoky exhaust when under hard acceleration too. Have any issues checked over by a competent person who can clean and test an EGR valve to see if replaecement is necessary. A faulty EGR will also lead to a fail of most annual emissions inspections, if applicable in your area.
