The Boot Side Vent Box (or Slam Vent) in your Jaguar is there to relieve air pressure inside the cabin to make closing the doors easier, and allows for air to flow out of the cabin when the heating fans are drawing air in from the outside. These vents are known sometimes to allow the ingress of water into the boot when the seals fail. If you do notice any water under the boot floor, have a competent person check the seals around the boot, and replace as necessary.
