Your Jaguar XJ has a sophisticated Air Suspension System, tuned to provide superior levels of comfort and refinement to the coil spring setup found in most cars. Instead of a mechanical spring that works in conjunction with shock absorbers, the air spring in your Jaguar XJ is inflated as required by a small air compressor to lift the car and to maintain optimal ride characteristics as you drive along the road. As with any suspension setup, the parts do wear as they age and can either fail or become less effective. The most likely faults in the Air Suspension System would be the air compressor or the actual air bags themselves. If you notice any suspension warning is on your Jaguar's dashboard, or the suspension fails to lift, have your Jaguar checked over as soon as possible, as continuing to drive in this state could cause more harm to other components rather quickly, and risk a higher repair bill.
