Valve Tappets in your Jaguar's engine are placed between the camshafts and the inlet/exhaust valves. Also called Cam Followers or Valve Lifters, they are acted on by the rotational motion of the camshaft to convert that to the linear motion required to push the valves open as required. If you have a metallic tapping noise coming from near the top of your Jaguar's engine, have a competent person check it over to diagnose the issue. Worn tappets should be replaced, as should any worn parts in the engine to help increase the longevity and the reliability of your Jaguar.
